Equal parts pitch-black satire and transgressive ultraviolence, the film became a touchstone of 2000s Japanese extreme cinema.

Poster design
A searing, close-crop portrait of Kakihara—scarred cheeks stitched wide, bathed in hot amber and neon magenta—floats against inky black. The deadpan tagline 「愛は、かなりイタイ。」 (“Love hurts. A lot.”) sits at right, while the bold, distressed logotype 「殺し屋１」 with dotted “1” and campaign URL (koroshiya-1.com) anchor the base.
