Getting our hands on almost mint condition 1964 Japanese B2 [20x28" (51x72cm)] Poster of King Kong vs. Godzilla is a rarity. It has never been folded, no pin holes and is a few of its kind.
The previous owner had collected it since he was a student. For the many years, we have been buying and selling vintage posters, we have never seen one like this that is in such a phenomenal condition. The previous owner cherished the poster and carefully stored all of his collection. Even though this item is very old, the condition does not give any indication of this - we doubt that another poster like this will come on the market for many years to come.
Godzilla fits under the Kaiju Film Genre, meaning “giant monster” in Japan. Interestingly, the Godzilla film series was inspired in-part by the 1952 re-release of “King Kong” in Japan followed quickly by “The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms” in 1953.
The Japanese title of the latter was “原子怪獣現わる”, which translates to “An Atomic Kaiju Appears”. Godzilla premiered in 1954. King Kong vs. Godzilla was the 3rd film in the Godzilla series. It proved so popular that it had a whopping 4 theatrical releases over the years!
This is a very rare poster for the second release in 1964 — the film proved so popular it was released just 2 years later!
