This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1962 for the first release of Lawrence of Arabia !
During the 1950s and early 1960s the studios were doing all they could to bring the audience back into the theater as the loss to television had left most of the majors crippled. Cinemascope, 3-D, and other techniques were used to lure the audience back to the theatrical experience.
Incredibly rare, we believe that there is only one other copy that has survived due to their fragile plastic material, which would crack if mishandled.
Based on T. E. Lawrence's The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, this incredible motion picture was nominated for eighteen Oscars and won seven, including Best Director (David Lean), Best Score (Maurice Jarre), and Best Picture. The film was the true account and epic depiction of the revolt of the Arabs against the Ottoman empire during World War I. Peter O'Toole established himself as a major star in the lead role of Lawrence and the rest of the cast was just as brilliant, including Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn, and newcomer Omar Sharif. The film has long since transcended into legend as one of the most important films ever made, inspiring other directors such as Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
