The musicians speak fondly about their instruments, each convinced of its particular importance. Once the conductor, played by Balduin Baas, takes the podium, these individual loyalties turn into open revolt. Fine horizontal rules cross a salmon-pink ground, but almost everything placed against them sits at an angle. A large colour photograph shows the string players bowing their instruments amid the rubble of the rehearsal room. Above them, a black-and-white conductor projects sideways into the composition from the right edge, baton in hand, while loose sheets of music appear to fly across the page.

The Japanese title 「オーケストラ・リハーサル」 runs down the left edge in oversized black lettering.
