This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1964 for the promotion of Olympic Games 1964 Tokyo.
This is the second poster produced, titled: "The Start of Sprinter’s Dash"
The official posters for the Tokyo 1964 Olympics, created by designer Yusaku Kamekura with contributions from photographers Osamu Hayasaki and Jo Murakoshi, were released in a series of four, starting in February 1961. These colorful, photogravure posters, highly praised for their technical quality, included:
- "The Rising Sun and the Olympic Emblem"
- "The Start of Sprinter’s Dash"
- "A Butterfly-Swimmer"
- "An Olympic Torch Runner"
The posters were widely distributed, with the first one, featuring Japan’s national flag design, being printed in 100,000 copies. Each subsequent poster featured athletes, with the second poster capturing sprinters at the National Stadium, the third showcasing a butterfly swimmer, and the final one highlighting an Olympic torch runner. These posters were distributed across Japan and internationally, helping to build excitement for the Games and received several prestigious awards, including the Milan Poster Design Award.
