"The Taking of Pelham One Two Three", Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1974, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) M135

Sale price $100.00

This is an original Japanese movie poster printed in 1974 for the first domestic release of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three—the gripping New York subway–hijack thriller directed by Joseph Sargent and distributed in Japan by United Artists. The design plunges viewers into the gloom of an underground tunnel: twin headlights bearing down, rails knifing through darkness, and the Japanese release title サブウェイ・パニック slashed in vivid red across the lower field. An English inset synopsis at left tersely outlines the hijackers’ chilling ultimatum, while a Japanese headline above warns that “Something has begun to shake New York’s vast subway network!”

Starring Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw, the film set the benchmark for hostage-negotiation suspense and remains a cult classic of 1970s crime cinema. Advance marketing in Japan was modest, making surviving B2s like this especially desirable among collectors of international film posters and gritty 1970s design.

It is over 51 years old!
