This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1966 (55 years ago!) for the re-release of Bambi. Considering its age, it is in a fantastic condition.
This poster was acquired by Japan Poster Shop, along with many other rare 1950-1970`s posters (all in excellent to near mint condition), from a Japanese supplier near Osaka. The posters were previously carefully stored in a warehouse belonging to an entrepreneur who used to own a cinema until the 1980`s (when it went bankrupt due to the rise in VHS video).
Though production on Bambi started in 1936, Walt Disney's relentless pursuit of perfection pushed the film's release in America back to 1942. As a result, it was Disney's final animated feature film before the outbreak of World War II, as wartime cutbacks forced the studio to cease feature length production. The film tells the story of a young deer, Bambi, growing up in the forest with his friends Thumper, Flower and Faline. Bambi's father is the Great Prince of the Forest, and protects the woodland creatures from hunters. Sweet Bambi will eventually take over this title and its responsibility. Disney changed the species of deer from a roe deer to a mule deer, as these are more common in America. (Source HA)
