On the Beach is a 1959 American post-apocalyptic science fiction drama from United Artists, starring Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire, and Anthony Perkins. Produced and directed by Stanley Kramer, the film is based on Nevil Shute's 1957 novel of the same name, which explores the aftermath of a nuclear war. Unlike the novel, the film does not assign blame for starting the war, instead focusing on global annihilation driven by fear and compounded by accidents or misjudgments.
