This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1986 for Laputa: Castle in the Sky (天空の城ラピュタ, Tenkū no Shiro Rapyuta).
Film background
Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli, Laputa was the studio’s first feature after its founding. The film follows Sheeta and Pazu as they race sky-pirates and the army to the mythical floating island. Score by Joe Hisaishi; released in Japan by Toei.
Poster design
A handsome triptych layout: the Dola Pirates’ airship sails across a clouded sky above large portrait panels of Sheeta and Pazu. The lower-right credit block carries the Japanese title 「天空の城ラピュタ」 with rights to 二馬力 and 徳間書店 and a 1986 date—excellent period authentication. Warm colours and clean character art make this a superb display piece.
It is nearly 40 years old!
