This film was directed by George Stevens and stars Montgomery Cliff, Elizabeth Taylor and Shelly Winters. It is based on Theodore Dreiser's 1925 novel, An American Tragedy, and the 1926 play of the same name. The film tells the story of a working-class boy who gets a job working for his wealthy uncle. The young man gets entangled with two beautiful women, resulting in a tragic outcome. This film was a big success at the time of release and won six Academy awards.
This Original Release Japanese Movie Poster is a very rare Tatekan (standing) poster size - which makes its existence exceedingly rare because of limited prints to this Japan-only size at the outset in 1951.
To our knowledge this is one of the very few that still exist. It is not sold in any large auctions in the West or East. We came across it from a collector of family generations.
The outstanding design is unique to Japan and the colours remain extremely pigminted and vivid.
