Cutie Honey is a Japanese shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Go Nagai, first published in 1973. The story follows Honey Kisaragi, an android girl who transforms into the superheroine Cutie Honey to battle various villains. A key element of the series is her transformation, during which she temporarily loses her clothing. Nagai stated that Honey was the first female protagonist in a shōnen manga series. The manga ran until April 1974 in Weekly Shōnen Champion.
Kiyoshi Nagai (永井潔, Nagai Kiyoshi), better known by his pen name Go Nagai (永井 豪, Nagai Gō), is a Japanese manga artist born on September 6, 1945. A prolific writer of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and erotica, Nagai made his professional debut in 1967 with Meakashi Polikichi. He is best known for creating iconic 1970s manga and anime series, including Cutie Honey, Devilman, and Mazinger Z.
