The Lady from Shanghai (1947) is an American film noir directed and produced by Orson Welles, starring Rita Hayworth, Welles, Everett Sloane, and Glenn Anders. The screenplay, adapted by Welles, is based on Sherwood King's novel If I Die Before I Wake.
Although the film received mixed reviews upon release, it has since gained recognition as a classic. In 2018, The Lady from Shanghai was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for its cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance.
