"Alien vs. Predator (エイリアン vs. プレデター)", Original Japanese Movie Poster 2004, First Release, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N169
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2004 for the first theatrical release of Alien vs. Predator (エイリアン vs. プレデター), produced by 20th Century Fox and released in Japan by Fox Japan. Posters from this crossover entry are highly collectible as they unite two of sci-fi cinema’s most iconic franchises.
Film background
Directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, Alien vs. Predator brought together H. R. Giger’s terrifying Xenomorph from Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) and the Predator first introduced in John McTiernan’s Predator (1987). The story follows a team of archaeologists and mercenaries who uncover a hidden pyramid in Antarctica, where the two alien species wage war. The humans are caught in the middle of the battle, with survival hinging on uneasy alliances. Though divisive among critics, the film became a major commercial success and spawned a sequel (AVPR: Aliens vs. Predator – Requiem, 2007).
Poster design
The Japanese first release poster features a dramatic split composition: the sleek, biomechanical Alien on the left and the armored Predator on the right, with blades drawn in combat stance. The stark contrast in green and blue tones highlights their confrontation, while the Japanese tagline ominously reads: “Whichever wins… humanity loses.” The bold katakana title “エイリアン vs. プレデター” anchors the lower field, with the release date and Fox Japan branding. A striking and modern design that perfectly embodies the film’s high-concept showdown.
