“Curse of the Dog God” (犬神の悪霊〈たたり〉), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1977, First Release, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O112
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1977 for the first domestic theatrical release of Curse of the Dog God (犬神の悪霊〈たたり〉), directed by Shun’ya Itō and released in Japan by Toei. First-issue Japanese posters for Itō’s occult village horror are sought after by collectors of 1970s J-horror and folk-mystery cinema.
Film background
A remote rural community is shaken by a series of deaths blamed on an ancient dog-deity curse. As fear and superstition spread, buried grievances and blood debts surface, pitting villagers against one another while an investigation tries to separate legend from human malice. Itō—famed for his razor-precise genre craft—blends folk myth, social tension, and creeping dread into a distinctly Japanese occult thriller.
Poster design
A superb painted composition: a stormy night sky opens into cloud-forms that reveal a girl’s watchful face, while below a russet road winds toward a walled gate. At lower left, a snarling dog’s head seems to surge up from the earth—an image of the curse itself encroaching on the village. The brush-stroke title 「犬神の悪霊」 is rendered in bold white, punctuated by the red phonetic cartouches 「たたり」. A vertical cast strip runs down the right margin; studio and credit blocks anchor the base with the Eirin mark printed at upper left—classic hallmarks of a first-release country sheet with striking wall presence.
