This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1986 for the first release of Female Trouble / Pink Flamingos.

Female Trouble (1974) is a dark comedy by John Waters, starring Divine as Dawn Davenport, a troubled teen who runs away, gets pregnant, and turns to crime. The film, made after Pink Flamingos, shares a low-budget, independent style. It explores themes of crime and beauty, inspired by Waters' visits to Manson Family member Charles "Tex" Watson, to whom the film is dedicated.

Pink Flamingos (1972) is a black comedy horror film by John Waters, part of his "Trash Trilogy," which includes Female Trouble and Desperate Living. The film stars the drag queen Divine as Babs Johnson, a criminal who prides herself on being "the filthiest person alive." Babs lives with her eccentric family in a trailer, where she faces competition from the Marbles, a criminal couple eager to surpass her in depravity. The film features outrageous and grotesque scenes of explicit and taboo subjects, including nudity, violence, and perverse acts, earning an NC-17 rating upon its re-release in 1997.

Known for its shock value, Pink Flamingos became notorious for its blend of offensive humor, social satire, and over-the-top transgression, covering topics like exhibitionism, cannibalism, and incest. Though initially controversial and banned in several countries, it gained a cult following and critical acclaim over time. In 2021, it was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry for its cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance. The film is often regarded as a foundational example of abject art, pushing the boundaries of taste and filmmaking conventions.
