This is an original Japanese poster for the promotion of Godzilla 42 Days Inferno in 1992.
A striking poster showcasing the iconic promotional image of Shodai Godzilla biting a Tokaido Line train, with a view of Sukiyabashi and Ginza from the Hibiya direction. The renowned Nippon Theater is visible on the left. The event films are displayed on the far left and right, while the event title/logo and date are prominently featured in the center and at the bottom.
This is the B1 poster for The Godzilla 42 Day Inferno: Toho SFX Movie History (ザ・ゴジラ激闘の42日間 東宝特撮映画全史), measuring approximately 40×28″ (103x72cm). The event celebrated the history of Toho’s special effects films with 42 days of movie screenings leading up to the release of Godzilla vs. Mothra on December 12, 1992. Held at Theater Ikebukuro (テアトル池袋), located in front of the Sezon Museum of Modern Art, Ikebukuro East Exit (池袋東口セゾン美術館前), the screenings ran from Saturday, October 31 to December 11. The opening day featured Godzilla (1954) and Godzilla Raids Again (1955), followed by a full lineup of Showa-era Godzilla films (1954–1975), The Human Vapor (1960), Mothra (1961), Rodan (1956), Gorath (1962), Matongo (1963), Dogora (1964), Frankenstein Conquers the World (1966), The War of the Gargantuas (1966), all the Godzilla Heisei films, and more. The final screenings on December 11 appropriately featured Mothra (1961) and Godzilla (1954). It is believed that the Godzilla 42 Day Inferno helped boost attendance for the release of Godzilla vs. Mothra, which saw record-breaking turnout. I have a faint memory of this event and wish I could have attended—it was only two years before my first trip to Japan. Over the past five decades, such events have celebrated the incredible cinematic legacy of our beloved monster.
