The Hidden Fortress (1958) – The Film That Inspired Star Wars
Akira Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress is a classic 1958 jidaigeki adventure that heavily influenced Star Wars. George Lucas drew inspiration from its storytelling technique, particularly its use of lowly characters’ perspectives—echoed in C-3PO and R2-D2—and its plot, which also shaped The Phantom Menace.
The film follows two hapless peasants who unknowingly assist a disguised general (Toshiro Mifune) and a princess (Misa Uehara) in crossing enemy lines for gold. A must-see for Star Wars fans and lovers of epic adventure cinema!
