This is one of the rarest and most beautiful James Dean posters. Out of the three films that James Dean acted in, this is the only one that was released during his lifetime. East of Eden was based on a seminal novel written by John Steinbeck published in 1952.
"East of Eden", "Rebel Without a Cause" and "Giant", have all be named by the American film institute as the best films of all time.
The outstanding design and quality of this 1955 original release is very unique to Japan; and made more special since it is printed on the very rare STB Tatekan (standing) poster size - where only a small number of this size was printed. The poster is almost 5ft. tall.
Most of these posters were immediately destroyed after use and were never sold. We are very lucky to have acquired a large collection from an individual who used to own a cinema in the 1950s.
To our knowledge, this poster is one of the very few that still exist and has not sold in any large auctions in the West, or the East.
We are honored to be able to export some of Japan's finest original vintage posters from the Land of the Rising Sun to collectors around the world!
