“King Kong Escapes” (キングコングの逆襲), Original Re-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1972, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O210
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1973 for Toho’s domestic re-release of King Kong Escapes (Japan/USA, 1967), directed by Ishirō Honda with Eiji Tsuburaya’s special effects. Early-’70s Showa reissue sheets for marquee kaijū titles are highly collectible.
Film background
Evil genius Dr. Who unleashes the robot doppelgänger Mechani-Kong to mine Element X and frames the real King Kong, triggering a city-smashing showdown that ropes in Gorosaurus, attack helicopters, tanks, and a kidnapped heroine—pure late-’60s Toho spectacle.
Poster design
A blazing orange sky sets the stage as Mechani-Kong fires twin eye-beams at a lunging King Kong, with Gorosaurus snapping from the flank and armored columns exploding below. The huge distressed red logotype 「キングコングの逆襲」 tears across the base; the blue Toho roundel and campaign billing provide classic hallmarks of an authentic early-’70s re-issue sheet with explosive wall presence.
