"Laputa: Castle in the Sky" (天空の城ラピュタ), Original Japanese First-Release Promotional Poster 1986, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O341

Sale price $300.00

This is an original Japanese promotional B2 poster printed in 1986 for the first theatrical release of Hayao Miyazaki’s landmark Studio Ghibli feature Laputa: Castle in the Sky (天空の城ラピュタ). Produced by Nibariki and Tokuma Shoten for the domestic campaign, this design was distributed as a promotional item rather than an in-cinema movie poster—making it considerably rarer and highly collectible among early Ghibli materials. It represents the very beginning of the Studio Ghibli era following Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) and marks the formative collaboration between Miyazaki, Toshio Suzuki, and Joe Hisaishi.

Design
A serene and intimate portrait of protagonists Pazu and Sheeta, gazing resolutely into the distance. The clean composition, minimal background, and soft colour palette highlight Miyazaki’s emphasis on character emotion over spectacle. The title 天空の城ラピュタ appears elegantly at upper right, while the lower-right copyright line “© 二馬力・徳間書店 300 A 東映” confirms this as an original 1986-issue promotional print. Its simplicity and focus on the duo’s bond distinguish it from the more action-oriented theatrical poster designs.

Condition
Excellent condition overall, with only light handling. Please review the attached photographs—they show the exact poster for sale.
