"Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン)", Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1970s, A1 Size (84 × 60 cm)

Sale price $150.00

This is an original large-format Japanese A1 promotional poster (84 × 60 cm) produced in the 1970s to promote Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン), one of the most iconic anime series of its era. Issued by Columbia Records (コロムビア), the poster was created to advertise related music and record releases tied to the anime. Unlike theatrical movie posters, these Columbia music promotional prints were produced in limited quantities and distributed primarily to record shops and promotional outlets, making surviving examples extremely scarce today.

Background
First airing in 1972, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman became a landmark of Japanese animation, influencing countless later works and earning international recognition (marketed abroad as Battle of the Planets and G-Force). Created by Tatsunoko Productions, the series introduced the now-legendary five-member superhero team, blending science fiction, action, and environmental themes. With its dynamic character designs, futuristic vehicles, and dramatic storylines, Gatchaman became one of the defining anime of the 1970s and a cultural touchstone in Japan.

Poster design
This striking A1 promotional poster features two of the main heroes in full costume, rendered in vivid colors with dramatic flair. The artwork prominently includes the signature "G" chest emblem, weapons, and flowing cape design, embodying the series’ bold science-fiction aesthetic. At the bottom right, the Columbia Records (コロムビア) logo is printed alongside the credit for the record/music release. The artwork is further authenticated with a printed artist’s signature dated 1973, reinforcing its vintage origins.

Condition
This poster shows some signs of use and age-related wear, including minor creasing and discoloration, entirely consistent with its age. These have been taken into consideration when pricing, and the poster still presents powerfully when displayed.

A formidable and rare piece of vintage anime history, perfect for collectors of Tatsunoko Productions, 1970s anime memorabilia, and Japanese promotional art.

It is over 45 years old.
