This is an original Japanese silk screen poster printed in 1968 for the promotion of the "Japan Advertising Artists Club - The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto". This poster is incredibly rare - we located it in a mountainous region of Japan hundreds of kilometers away from Tokyo!
The below is an anecdote from our supplier:
"This was a design by Yokoo Tadanori, who won the Nissenbi Grand Prize the previous year. This poster is a nostalgic memory of my youth from about 40 years ago. Looking at it brings back memories of those days. It was held every year at Shinjuku Keio Department Store (it says Keio Department Store) as an open exhibition to help designers get started. The admission fee to the Museum of Modern Art, 50 yen, is also written on it, bringing back fond memories of the good old days."
This silk screen is highly coveted amongst collectors of Yokoo and has been displayed in many of the finest art galleries across the globe. The poster is also featured on the cover of "100 Posters by Tadanori Yokoo" printed in 1978. It is thought of in very high regard for its simple yet iconic design.
Yokoo can be credited as the artist who introduced Pop Art to Japan. His earliest works were silkscreens, resulting in brighter colors.
It is over 56 years old!
