This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1976 for the first domestic theatrical release of Taxi Driver (タクシードライバー), directed by Martin Scorsese and released in Japan by Columbia Pictures. First-issue Japanese posters for this Palme d’Or winner are cornerstones of 1970s American cinema collecting.

Film background
Written by Paul Schrader and scored by Bernard Herrmann (his final film work), Taxi Driver stars Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle with Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Harvey Keitel, and Albert Brooks. A feverish portrait of post-Vietnam alienation and nocturnal New York, the film won the 1976 Cannes Palme d’Or and secured Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Actor (De Niro), Supporting Actress (Foster), and Score.

Poster design
The classic Japan B2 shows De Niro’s Travis walking downtown—hands in jacket pockets—against a monochrome city collage of marquees and traffic signage. The heavy blue title logotype 「タクシードライバー」 anchors the lower field beside the English title, with the Cannes award call-out at right. Distributor crediting and the Eirin censorship mark appear along the footer—hallmarks of a first-release domestic sheet with strong graphic impact.

Condition
Excellent, theatre-used. Clean surface with only light handling; a few tiny pinholes at corners; minimal edge wear. Colours are strong and the poster displays beautifully. Please refer to the additional imagery of the exact piece for sale.
