“Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla” (ゴジラ対メカゴジラ), Original Japanese Speed Poster 1974, Speed Size (26 × 75 cm) O237
This is an original Japanese speed-size poster printed in 1974 by Toho for the first release of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Issued for lobby display in a tall, narrow format and printed in far smaller numbers than standard B2s, these are scarce and highly collectible.
Film background
The 20th-anniversary Showa entry unleashes Godzilla’s mechanized nemesis—Mechagodzilla—alongside Anguirus and Okinawa’s guardian King Caesar. Directed by Jun Fukuda with effects by Teruyoshi Nakano, it’s a fan-favorite that launched the Mechagodzilla sub-series.
Poster design
A dramatic, hand-painted Mechagodzilla dominates a deep blue field, while an explosive yellow panel with a blue star carries the oversized red title 「ゴジラ対メカゴジラ」. Classic Toho branding sits at top right, with the Eirin rating seal 74500 and Printed in Japan © TOHO CO., LTD. 1974 along the lower margin.
Down the left side runs the launch copy in vertical Japanese type:
-
「王者があぶない!」 — “The king is in danger!”
-
「ゴジラを倒すために ものすごいゴジラがあらわれた!」 — “To defeat Godzilla, an incredible ‘Godzilla’ has appeared!” (a tease for Mechagodzilla’s disguise).
A small credit stack at lower right denotes 東宝映像製作・東宝配給 (Produced by Toho Eizo; distributed by Toho), with the monster roll-call set vertically beside the star: ゴジラ/メカゴジラ/アンギラス/キングシーサー.
