“El Topo” (エルトポ), Original Japanese Theatrical Poster — Japan First Release 1987, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O249
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1987 for the first Japanese release of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s El Topo (1970). A genuine cinema display sheet produced for theatres in Japan.
Film background
Jodorowsky’s cult “acid-western” follows a black-clad gunfighter and his son on a mystical quest that mutates into a brutal, messianic parable. The film became a midnight-movie phenomenon and set the stage for Jodorowsky’s later works.
Poster design
A striking sand-hued composition: the silhouetted rider and companion vanish into a grainy desert horizon, while the monumental red serif logotype EL TOPO dominates the center with the katakana reading エルトポ inset. A red brushstroke cartouche quotes Jodorowsky—“映画というものは、詩であって欲しい。”—giving the sheet elegant, literary weight. ABKCO marks appear along the base.
