Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Rope is a dark and subversive thriller loosely inspired by the real-life Leopold and Loeb case. It stars John Dall and Farley Granger as two privileged young men who murder a friend for the thrill of it — then host a dinner party with the body hidden in plain sight. James Stewart gives a masterful performance as their former professor, whose growing suspicions form the core tension of the film.
Hitchcock shot Rope to appear as a single continuous take, creating a gripping, claustrophobic atmosphere that was groundbreaking for its time. The poster captures this unsettling mood brilliantly, featuring James Stewart, the murder weapon (a rope), and Hitchcock himself clutching his own neck — a playful but chilling touch typical of the director’s dark wit.
This is a rare and desirable country-of-origin poster, and an exceptional example of early Japanese Hitchcock artwork.
