On Sale

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical movie poster printed in 1968 for the Japanese re-release of The Hidden Fortress (隠し砦の三悪人), directed by Akira Kurosawa and starring Toshirō Mifune and Misa Uehara. A major late-1950s Kurosawa adventure classic, the film blends sweeping action, comedy, and human drama—one of the director’s most entertaining large-scale period works.

Design
Phenomenal, classic Japanese key art with huge visual presence: Mifune dominates the frame in a fierce, battle-ready pose, while Misa Uehara appears prominently below, surrounded by vivid action vignettes that sell the film’s pace and scale. The vertical red title typography is bold and unmistakable, and the overall composition—mountain landscape, running figures, and dynamic character placement—captures Kurosawa’s mix of swagger, danger, and momentum. It’s an exceptionally displayable Kurosawa sheet with real wall power.

Condition
Very Good / Excellent. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale.
This is a theatre-used example, and we have taken the condition into account when pricing. There is some pencil writing on the reverse (the Japanese title—quite normal for cinema-handled posters). Aside from this, the poster presents in very good / excellent condition, and once framed it will display exceptionally well.

This poster is an original Japanese theatrical B2 from the 1968 re-release campaign.
It is not a reproduction or a reprint.

It is over 56 years old!

Certificate of Authenticity included.

Star Wars connection
George Lucas has acknowledged the influence of The Hidden Fortress on Star Wars, particularly the technique of telling the story through the perspective of the “lowest” characters—echoed in C-3PO and R2-D2—and early story elements that strongly resembled Kurosawa’s plot structure.
