This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1989 for the first release of My Neighbor Totoro.

"Japan's Studio Ghibli captured hearts across the globe with this fanciful film, now among one of the most famous features to ever come out of Japan. Released as a double bill with Ghibli's emotional film Grave of the Fireflies, the pictures generated only modest sales at the boxoffice, but had a long run of over nine months in theaters. During this time period, My Neighbor Totoro won multiple awards. Two new posters were printed in 1989 to celebrate these accolades, one being the more common, but still rare, "Cat Bus" style. The "Flute" style B2 offered here is arguably the rarest and most desirable of any of the posters for the film and the tagline translates as "This strange creature is still in Japan. Maybe." This poster is in a excellent condition. It has two horizontal fold lines across the center - please view the second image of the back of the poster to see this more clearly. It is quite possible that the fold lines could be pressed out, or linen-backing (c. $100 USD) would remove the fold lines completely. We have taken this into account with the price. Once framed, this poster will display excellently.
