“Dreams” (夢), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1990, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) G219

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1990 for the first release of Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams (夢)—a late-career masterwork built from eight visionary vignettes inspired by Kurosawa’s own dreams. Released after Ran and Kagemusha, it stands apart in his filmography as something more intimate and elemental: part memory, part fable, part warning.

Film background
Co-produced internationally and famously supported by admirers such as Steven Spielberg (credited on many materials), Dreams moves from childhood wonder to ecological dread—storms, fire, art, folklore, and the natural world rendered with Kurosawa’s painterly precision. It is widely regarded as one of the most visually ravishing films of his later period.

Poster design
A breathtaking minimalist composition. The upper half opens into an Edenic valley carpeted with wildflowers beneath a luminous rainbow—an image of fragile beauty and calm. Below, the enormous brush-calligraphy title 「夢」 dominates the white field like an ink painting on handmade paper, with the delicate English title “Akira Kurosawa’s DREAMS” set low in cool blue. It is museum-clean, perfectly balanced, and exceptionally frameable—one of the most elegant Kurosawa one-sheets of the modern era.
