“Abnormal Sex: Girl Kidnapping” / 「異常SEX 少女誘惑」, Original Japanese Movie Poster 1981, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) Q287
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1981 pink film Abnormal Sex: Girl Kidnapping (異常SEX 少女誘惑 / Ijō SEX: Shōjo Yūkai), a striking and highly unusual piece of Japanese exploitation-film ephemera distinguished by its artwork from Toshio Saeki.
Unlike the more conventional photographic advertising used for many adult and exploitation releases of the period, this poster is built around a custom illustration by one of the most important figures in postwar Japanese countercultural art. As such, it stands not only as film advertising, but also as a visually powerful example of Toshio Saeki’s unmistakable ero-guro graphic language.
A rare Toshio Saeki-designed film poster
Toshio Saeki (1945–2019) is widely regarded as a seminal figure in modern ero-guro-nansensu — the Japanese “erotic-grotesque-nonsense” tradition. His work fused the flat graphic clarity of ukiyo-e-inspired linework with surrealism, black humour, transgression, and the unsettling psychology that made him one of the most recognisable Japanese illustrators of the late twentieth century.
Posters carrying Saeki’s artwork, especially for original period film releases, are significantly more compelling than standard genre paper because they appeal across multiple collecting fields:
Japanese poster collectors
Pink film / exploitation cinema collectors
Toshio Saeki and ero-guro collectors
Japanese graphic design and illustration collectors
This is therefore a poster with strong crossover appeal well beyond its original film context.
Poster design
The design is immediately arresting. Saeki’s illustration depicts a young woman bound to a tree beneath blossoming branches, rendered in his signature flat, highly controlled palette and outlined with crisp black contour lines. Falling cherry-blossom petals drift across the composition, creating an eerie and disquieting contrast between seasonal beauty and the poster’s charged, transgressive subject matter.
The visual structure is exceptionally strong:
- a fluorescent red border frames the image with extraordinary intensity
- the left-hand side carries the title in large red vertical characters
- a purple diagonal label reading 異常のSEX reinforces the sensationalist marketing tone
- the upper-right green cartouche marks it as an adult colour feature
- a small inset photographic image of the actress at lower left reminds the viewer that this is a live-action theatrical release rather than purely an illustrated work
The principal copy reads:
あどけない顔が、性の歓びを知ったとき…
連れこまれた密室で、何か起ったのか―!!
Which may be rendered approximately as:
“When an innocent face comes to know the pleasures of sex… what happened in the sealed room to which she was taken?!”
The result is a poster of remarkable display power — bold, graphic, confrontational, and unmistakably of its era.
Film context
The film belongs to the long and culturally significant tradition of pinku eiga (pink film), the low-budget but often stylistically adventurous sector of Japanese theatrical adult cinema that flourished from the 1960s through the 1980s.
This 1981 release was directed by Hideo Sano and distributed through Toei Central Film (東映セントラルフィルム), the Toei-affiliated label associated with independent and late-night genre productions. Cast billing at the bottom includes Miki Yamaji, Rima Aono, and Yuri Risa.
While the film itself belongs to the exploitation sphere, the poster’s enduring significance lies above all in its graphic authorship. Saeki’s involvement elevates it from routine advertising material into a collectible object of genuine artistic interest.
Collector significance
This is a particularly desirable poster for several reasons:
Original 1981 Japanese theatrical release
Artwork by Toshio Saeki
A superb example of ero-guro poster design
Exceptional fluorescent red border and bold colour contrasts
Strong crossover appeal between cinema and art collecting
Outstanding wall presence and display appeal
Far scarcer and more visually sophisticated than standard exploitation one-sheets
For collectors of Toshio Saeki, original Japanese posters, or the graphic culture of late Shōwa exploitation cinema, this is an especially compelling piece.
Condition
Excellent / close to near mint condition. Please study the photographs carefully, as they show the exact poster for sale.
The colours remain rich, vivid, and unusually fresh, with the fluorescent red border presenting particularly strongly. The paper has been very well preserved, with only light signs of handling and age consistent with an original Japanese poster of this period. The reverse is clean, and the poster has excellent overall presentation.
