“Millennium Actress” (千年女優), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 2001, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm)

Sale price $200.00

This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 2001 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Millennium Actress (千年女優), directed by Satoshi Kon and produced by Madhouse.

Film background
Released in 2001, Millennium Actress is one of Satoshi Kon’s most celebrated films—an elegant, emotionally charged blend of cinema history, memory, and romantic obsession. Framed as an interview with a retired screen legend, Chiyoko Fujiwara, the film moves fluidly through her life and the roles she played, collapsing boundaries between performance and reality in a uniquely Kon way. It’s widely regarded as a modern animation masterpiece and a cornerstone of early-2000s Japanese auteur anime.

Poster design
A beautiful, lyrical key art built around Chiyoko in a richly patterned red kimono, striding forward as if through time—her sleeves alive with crane motifs and gold cloud forms. Behind her, a collage of faces and costumes suggests the many eras and identities she inhabits, rendered in soft, parchment-like tones that feel archival and cinematic. The tagline across the centre reads 「千年かけても逢いたい人がいます」 (“There is someone I want to meet, even if it takes a thousand years”), perfectly capturing the film’s longing. A vertical title block 「千年女優」 anchors the left, while the right-side seal notes festival recognition and awards copy, completing an unusually refined and “gallery-ready” anime one-sheet.
