"The Sound of Music", Original Re-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1970, STB Size (c. 51 cm × 145 cm) N26

Sale price $350.00

This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1970 for the first major re-release of The Sound of Music.

This almost 5′ tall STB (tatekan) poster features joyous alpine artwork of Maria (Julie Andrews) leading the Von Trapp children across the lush Austrian countryside. STBs were printed in far lower numbers than standard B2s; surviving examples for blockbuster titles like this are exceptionally scarce and highly prized by collectors.

The Sound of Music (1965) is Robert Wise’s beloved musical adaptation of the Rodgers & Hammerstein stage hit, itself based on the memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Set in Salzburg on the eve of World War II, the film follows free-spirited governess Maria as she brings music and love back to the strict household of Captain Georg von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) and his seven children. Winner of five Academy Awards® including Best Picture, the film remains one of the most successful musicals ever produced, enjoyed worldwide in its 70 mm TODD-AO road-show presentations.
