This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster, produced for the film’s Japanese cinema release (劇場公開：1954年5月16日).

A fascinating and surprisingly bold piece of mid-century European cinema marketing, We Want a Child! is a Danish romantic drama with socially frank themes for its era — following a newly married couple struggling with infertility, and a parallel storyline involving a friend seeking an abortion and the emotional complications of adoption. The film was directed by Alice O’Fredericks and Lau Lauritzen Jr., produced in Denmark by ASA, and stars Ruth Brejnholm and Jørgen Reenberg (with key supporting roles including Maria Garland and Grethe Thordahl).

The artwork is absolutely beautiful — a hand-painted, illustrative design with a soft teal-green vortex background, anchored by dramatic vintage typography and the striking bilingual hook “WE WANT A CHILD!”. The central image (a tasteful nude figure lifting a baby) is classic of late-1940s/early-1950s European poster art: intimate, painterly, and emotionally direct, capturing the film’s themes of desire, vulnerability, and domestic longing in a single unforgettable composition.

Condition
Offered in very good vintage condition overall, especially considering the age and scarcity of Japanese posters from this period. The poster presents strongly with excellent colour and visual impact. 

A scarce and visually iconic Japanese poster from the early post-war import era — highly collectible both for its cross-cultural design appeal and for its rarity in original B2 format.
