"Zigeunerweisen" (ツィゴイネルワイゼン), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1980, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) M130

Sale price $100.00

This is an original Japanese movie poster printed in 1980 for the first theatrical release of Zigeunerweisen.

Directed, written, and independently produced by Seijun Suzuki, Zigeunerweisen opened a new “Taishō Roman Trilogy” after the director’s decade-long studio blacklisting. Set in 1920s Japan and named after Pablo de Sarasate’s violin showpiece, the film follows university professor Aochi (Toshiya Fujita) and his enigmatic former colleague Nakasago (Yoshio Harada) through a fever-dream tangle of seduction, doubles, and lingering ghosts. Shot by Kazue Nagatsuka with opulent Taishō-era art direction, the picture won Best Film at the 1981 Japanese Academy Awards and the inaugural Kinema Junpo Best Ten of the 1980s, re-establishing Suzuki as an art-house master.

It is over 45 years old!
