Original Hand‑Drawn Astro Boy Ink Illustration – “Flying Pose” (No.19, c. 1980s–1990s)

Sale price $1,495.00

One‑of‑a‑kind hand‑drawn ink illustration of Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom), from the 1980s–1990s, showing his classic flying pose. Studio line art on thin slightly larger than B5‑size drawing paper with red pencil “No.19” and approval mark. Japan Poster Shop COA included.

Product Description

This is an original, studio‑produced ink drawing of Astro Boy, rendered in bold black lines on thin cream‑toned drawing paper. Astro is depicted in his iconic flying pose, fists forward with segmented robot limbs and twin rocket flames trailing behind.

The artwork is hand‑inked: the lines show natural variation, and the solid black of the hair reveals overlapping strokes and subtle sheen under raking light (additional imagery provided). The drawing sits on a slightly larger than B5‑type sheet, approximately 26 × 18 cm (about 10.4" × 7.1").

In the upper right corner, a notation in red pencil reads “No.19”, identifying the pose and sheet number in a series. In the lower left corner there is a red circled mark, an “OK”‑style (maru) approval/check mark typical of Japanese studio practice.

The reverse shows a faint ghost image of Astro Boy where the ink has lightly impressed or bled through, along with scattered handling marks from studio use.

One vertical edge (the right side when viewing the image) appears to have been trimmed slightly by hand, probably when the piece was filed, mounted, or prepared for sale; the other three edges are factory‑cut.

This piece comes with a Japan Poster Shop Certificate of Authenticity (COA). This piece was produced for model sheet or licensing art, all observed details (medium, paper, annotations, ghost image on reverse) are consistent with authentic studio‑origin artwork.

A strong, iconic Astro Boy image and a distinctive example of vintage Tezuka‑related studio art.
