"Memories", Original First Release Japanese Movie Poster 1995, B2 Size (51 cm × 73 cm) N29
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1995 for the first theatrical release of Memories (メモリーズ), the celebrated three-part anime anthology conceived by Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo.
Memories comprises three distinct stories: “Magnetic Rose” (directed by Kōji Morimoto, scripted by Satoshi Kon), a haunting sci-fi opera in deep space; “Stink Bomb” (directed by Tensai Okamura), a darkly comic bio-weapon romp; and “Cannon Fodder” (written & directed by Otomo), a dystopian one-day vignette about a city built around perpetual artillery fire. The anthology showcased cutting-edge 1990s cel animation, Yoko Kanno’s sweeping score, and Otomo’s visionary world-building seven years after Akira.
Poster design
The B2 poster features Morimoto’s iconic artwork from Magnetic Rose: an obese astronaut tethered to a life-support throne, looming over a miniature saluting girl—set against crimson rose engravings and star-filled black margins. Vertical copy at right proclaims: “Seven years after ‘AKIRA’—the gate to a new Otomo zone opens!” (「AKIRA」から7年―新しいOTOMOゾーンの扉が開く!).
