This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1989 for the first theatrical release of Kiki’s Delivery Service (魔女の宅急便), directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The lower‑right corner carries the 非売品 (Not For Sale) mark and format details alongside the Dolby Stereo credit, confirming this as a genuine theatrical promotional poster rather than a commercial reprint.

Film background
Adapted from Eiko Kadono’s novel, Kiki’s Delivery Service follows 13‑year‑old witch Kiki and her cat Jiji as she leaves home to find her place in the wider world. Working out of a friendly bakery, she starts an airborne delivery service and gradually confronts self‑doubt, loneliness, and the challenge of growing up. Released in 1989, the film became a huge box‑office success in Japan and helped cement Studio Ghibli’s reputation worldwide for warm, character‑driven fantasy.

Poster design
This first‑release B2 uses one of the film’s most beloved images. Kiki leans on the bakery counter, chin resting on folded arms, with Jiji sitting alertly beside her. Behind them, shelves are stacked high with loaves and round country breads, painted in rich browns and golds that make the frame feel warm and inviting. The title 魔女の宅急便 appears in large pink lettering at the top, accompanied by the credit line 宮崎 駿 監督作品. Running vertically beside Kiki is her famous line:
「おちこんだりもしたけれど、私はげんきです。」
(“I’ve had my share of downs, but I’m doing just fine.”)

Through the shop window at the bottom, the street, car, and a small figure of Kiki heading out on a delivery are reflected, hinting at her life beyond the counter. The overall composition perfectly captures the film’s mix of coziness, introspection, and adventure.
