This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1983 for Ted Kotcheff’s survival-thriller First Blood, the debut of Vietnam veteran John Rambo and the launch of one of cinema’s most enduring action franchises. Starring Sylvester Stallone with Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy, the film pits a traumatized drifter against small-town law enforcement and a mobilized National Guard—an intense, economical chase picture with a raw critique of post-war America.

Design
A kinetic, collage-heavy Japanese layout: a giant, grim-faced Stallone charges the viewer on a motorcycle while police cruisers and fireballs tear across a highway and helicopters swarm overhead. The colossal bevelled red title 「ランボー」 rips through the lower field, backed by a convoy of squad cars; the TOWA distributor mark and DOLBY STEREO tags line the footer. The copy at the top hypes the New Year ’83 “Action Big No.1 climax,” capturing the fever-pitch of Rambo’s first appearance in Japan.
