“The Last Waltz” (ラスト・ワルツ), Original Japanese B2 Movie Poster 1978, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) O577
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed for the 1978 theatrical release of The Last Waltz, Martin Scorsese’s legendary concert film chronicling the Band’s 1976 farewell performance at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom. Often cited as one of the greatest concert movies ever made, the film captures the Band—Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson—sharing the stage with an astonishing line‑up of guests including Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Neil Diamond, Ringo Starr and many more.
Design
The Japanese B2 stays close to the now‑iconic original campaign: a deep black ground framed by a fine white border, dominated by the monumental, calligraphic title THE LAST WALTZ in cream. Below, a row of rainbow‑coloured silhouettes of the Band stands in triumphant pose, guitars raised, their reflections echoing on an implied stage line. Credits for the Band and guest performers run in clean white type down the left side, while a Japanese tagline and the katakana title 「ラスト・ワルツ」 anchor the lower section, tying this classic rock‑film image to its Japanese release. The result is a bold, graphic design that feels as much like an album cover as a movie poster.
