"True Account Of Hikashaku: A Wolf`s Honor"(実録飛車角 狼どもの仁義), Original Japanese B2 Movie Poster 1974, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) ZA168
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1974 Toei yakuza film Jitsuroku Hishakaku: Ōkami domo no jingi (実録飛車角 狼どもの仁義), directed by Shinji Murayama and starring Bunta Sugawara.
Film background
Part of Toei’s influential “jitsuroku” (true‑record) cycle, the film dramatises the turbulent post‑war career of gambler and enforcer Hishakaku, embroiled in shifting gang alliances and brutal turf wars. Shot in a quasi‑documentary style, it emphasises gritty realism over romanticised honour codes, reflecting the genre shift that reshaped Japanese gangster cinema in the 1970s. Sugawara’s intense performance helped cement his status as the era’s defining yakuza star.
Poster design
The B2 design is stark and powerful. A nearly monochrome photograph shows Sugawara’s Hishakaku standing bare‑chested in driving rain, sword at his side, head thrown back in a raw shout. The image is framed by a muted taupe border, with vertical red copy down the right edge and the film’s title “実録飛車角” slashed across the bottom in vivid red brushstrokes. The simplicity of the layout focuses all attention on the central figure’s fury and desperation.
Toei’s 1970s jitsuroku posters are highly prized, both for their bold graphic style and for their association with classics of the genre. Many were heavily used in local theatres and yakuza districts, so clean survivors are not common.
