"Equinox Flower (彼岸花)", Original Re-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1972, OZU, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) N155

Sale price $250.00

This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1972 for Shochiku’s domestic re-release of Yasujirō Ozu’s Equinox Flower (1958) — Ozu’s first color feature and a quintessential late masterpiece.

A serene, quietly powerful family drama, Equinox Flower follows a traditional father forced to reckon with changing post-war values when his daughter chooses a love marriage over an arranged one. Ozu’s trademark tatami-level framing, deliberate pacing, and lyrical use of red accents (the “equinox flower”) make this film a touchstone of Japanese cinema.

Poster design
Refined studio-still composition inside a tatami room: a young woman in indigo kimono stands beside two women in Western dress, capturing Ozu’s dialogue between tradition and modernity. The hand-brushed pink title 「彼岸花」 glows across the upper field, with a praise line for “the film art of master Ozu” above. Credits run along the footer with the classic Shochiku logo at lower right. Elegant, minimal, and unmistakably Ozu.
