This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1977 revival re-release of Sergei M. Eisenstein’s silent-era masterpiece Battleship Potemkin (戦艦ポチョムキン). 

The poster itself also underscores the film’s layered release history: originally produced in 1925, with a later 1950 Soviet sound version (発声版) referenced on the design—context echoed in Japanese film notes for the title.

Design
A striking, minimalist black-and-gold composition—graphic, confrontational, and unmistakably “art cinema” in tone. The upper-right face (screaming in anguish) and the lower-left silhouette of the battleship and crowd create a brutal diagonal tension, perfectly echoing the film’s revolutionary impact. The typography is equally strong: the director credit 監督 セルゲイ・M・エイゼンシュテイン and the bold title 戦艦ポチョムキン sit in the centre like a manifesto, with the ATG mark below—an iconic Japanese art-house presentation.
