"Ebirah, Horror of the Deep", Original Re-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1971, Speed Poster Size (c. 25 cm × 73 cm) H56 A
This is an original Japanese Speed Poster (スピードポスター) printed in 1971 for Toho’s kaiju film Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster—released internationally as Ebirah, Horror of the Deep and titled in Japan as ゴジラ・エビラ・モスラ 南海の大決闘 (“Godzilla, Ebirah, Mothra: Great Duel in the South Seas”). It’s a classic Showa-era Godzilla entry featuring Godzilla, the giant crustacean Ebirah, and Mothra, designed for maximum impact in narrow theatre display spaces.
Design
A superb, high-contrast speed-format design built around typography: the massive red 南海の大決闘 (“Great Duel in the South Seas”) stacks down the left like a siren, while a vertical multi-colour title strip reads ゴジラ・エビラ・モスラ in bold pop lettering. The lower section explodes into action imagery—Godzilla squared off amid chaos, with a huge insect close-up and dynamic effects—creating that perfect speed-poster balance of big type + punchy monster visuals. The Toho mark at the top right and the period-era credit block at the bottom firmly anchor it as authentic theatrical material.
