“Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone”, Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 2007, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA878
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 2007 for the first release of Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版: 序)—the first film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series, written and chiefly directed by Hideaki Anno and produced by Studio Khara. It reintroduces the world of Evangelion with remade visuals, restructured pacing, and the same core premise: Tokyo-3, NERV, and a reluctant pilot drawn into an apocalyptic war against the Angels.
Film background
Set fifteen years after the cataclysm known as Second Impact, the story follows Shinji Ikari, recruited by NERV to pilot Evangelion Unit-01 against mysterious beings called Angels—alongside fellow pilots Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Soryu (with Misato Katsuragi and the NERV staff driving the story’s psychological and geopolitical tension). The film retains the original Japanese voice cast, including Megumi Ogata, Kotono Mitsuishi, and Megumi Hayashibara, helping connect this “new theatrical” incarnation directly back to the original TV series.
Poster design
One of the strongest Japanese campaign visuals from the Rebuild era: a quiet, architectural composition set on a concrete stairwell with huge windows and distant power lines—cool, modern, and emotionally restrained. The characters are spaced like a tableau—Shinji seated centre, Rei standing above, Kaworu positioned at the landing, with Misato and others anchoring the lower frame—creating a sense of distance, fate, and surveillance that perfectly matches Evangelion’s tone. The vertical title typography ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版: 序 cuts down the middle like a spine, while the dense red “glossary” text along the right gives it that unmistakable mid-2000s Evangelion design language—part poster, part dossier.
