"Ghost in the Shell" (攻殻機動隊), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1995, Ultra Rare, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O717
This is an original Japanese theatrical poster printed in 1995 for Mamoru Oshii’s cyber‑punk landmark GHOST IN THE SHELL / 攻殻機動隊, adapted from Masamune Shirow’s manga and animated by Production I.G, with Japanese theatrical distribution by Shochiku (松竹). Shochiku’s official film database lists the original release date as 1995年11月18日 and notes the film’s international rollout (日・米・英で同時公開).
A defining work of late‑20th‑century science fiction, Ghost in the Shell helped set the visual and philosophical template for modern cyber‑thrillers—probing selfhood, consciousness, and embodiment in a hyper‑networked near future. Production I.G itself explicitly credits the 1995 film’s world‑shaping impact, noting its influence on global creators including the Wachowskis (The Matrix) and James Cameron, and describing it as a work that revolutionized later SF screen imagery.
Its reputation also reflects genuine cult status: English‑language coverage has long pointed to the film’s dedicated following outside Japan, especially through home video discovery, and its enduring influence on how pop culture imagines cyberspace and “digital selves.”
Poster design
This is the most iconic “birth of the cyborg” key art: a kneeling cybernetic figure in a near‑blank, gallery‑white void, tethered by sweeping umbilical cables in black, violet, and red. The bilingual line anchors the composition:
“People love machines in 2029 A.D.
‘Who are you? Who slips into my robot body and whispers to my ghost?’”
Below sits the classic GHOST △ IN △ THE △ SHELL / 攻殻機動隊 logotype and full Japanese credit block.
This B2 configuration is especially sought‑after for the bold, stepped yellow publicity banners at upper right, reading:
「世界同時公開決定」 — “Worldwide simultaneous release confirmed.”
「この秋、このアニメが映画を進化させる!!」 — “This autumn, this anime will evolve cinema!!”
Design credit is printed on the sheet itself (“Illustrated by Hiroyuki Okiura / Designed by Teruhisa Tajima”).
A particularly nice “period” authenticity detail: the bottom line notes 東京国際ファンタスティック映画祭’95 (Tokyo International Fantastic Film Festival ’95) and “ワールドプレミア上映” (world premiere screening), echoed in Japanese event reporting that recalls the 1995 Tokyo festival screening of the Oshii film.
Lower right also carries the Dolby Stereo mark and the circular 映倫 (Eirin) approval seal—both consistent with original theatrical materials of the era.
Condition
Excellent overall—verging on close to near mint. Presented in the photos held by magnets (no pinholes), with no fold lines, no tears, and no staining visible. Whites remain clean, inks are strong and even, and the reverse is blank/clean with only the lightest age‑appropriate handling evidence at the extreme edges. This is a standout display copy that frames beautifully. Please review the photos (front and detail); they show the exact poster offered.
It is around 30 years old!
It is not a reproduction or a reprint.
Certificate of Authenticity included.
