“I.K.U.”, Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 2000, B1 Size (c. 73 × 103 cm) (G)
This is an original Japanese large-format B1 theatrical poster for I.K.U. (2000), a Japan cyberpunk adult feature directed by Shu Lea Cheang, produced/distributed by UPLINK. The film was marketed internationally as “a Japanese Sci-Fi Porn Feature”, and this poster is a genuinely niche piece of 2000-era Japanese underground cinema history.
Film background
Released around 2000, I.K.U. sits at the intersection of cyberpunk, experimental cinema, and adult film—built around a near-future corporate premise tied to data, desire, and technology. The film became infamous after premiering in Sundance’s Midnight programme (and is widely cited as the first pornographic film screened at the festival), later developing a cult reputation among collectors of extreme cyber-cinema and late-90s/early-00s digital underground work.
Poster design
This B1 design is pure high-concept “red room” minimalism: a saturated crimson field with a soft, ominous shadow form at upper left, anchored by the sleek italic I.K.U. logotype in white. The figure styling—silver bob, black latex-like costume, futuristic prop device—pushes the film’s techno-erotic/cyberpunk identity without relying on clutter. Close-up details on the lower margin include UPLINK/production credits and the film’s branding, giving the sheet the feel of a gallery-grade contemporary poster rather than typical adult-video packaging.
Why this B1 is special
Because I.K.U. is a highly niche title, large-format B1 theatrical paper is significantly harder to find than standard video-era promo materials—especially in Near Mint condition. This is a standout collector’s format for an underground cult release with real design presence on the wall.
