"Karate Bearfighter" (空手バカ一代 / Karate Baka Ichidai), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1975, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA906
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1975 for the original release of Karate Bearfighter (commonly known in Japan as 空手バカ一代), a wild, uniquely Showa-era martial-arts exploitation film starring Sonny Chiba (千葉真一)—a cult icon of 1970s Japanese action cinema. The film’s appeal lies in its outrageous “man versus beast” premise and its pure grindhouse energy, packaged for maximum impact in theatres.
Design
An absolutely unforgettable piece of Japanese exploitation design: Chiba, in a karate gi, is frozen mid-strike as he drives a punch into the jaws of a snarling bear—blood-red splatter accents and an inset bear head shot dial the absurdity up to eleven. The huge brush-calligraphy title in violent red dominates the lower half, while the vertical name tag けんか空手 (Kenka Karate) adds street-fight swagger. On the right, bold copy hypes the “how will he beat it?” spectacle tone, making this an instant conversation piece on any wall—pure 1970s Japanese action poster excess.
