“Murder on the Orient Express” (オリエント急行殺人事件), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1974, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O792

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1974 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Murder on the Orient Express (オリエント急行殺人事件), a United Kingdom / United States mystery directed by Sidney Lumet, based on Agatha Christie, starring Albert Finney as Hercule Poirot, with an all-star ensemble including Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery, Jacqueline Bisset, Anthony Perkins, John Gielgud, and Vanessa Redgrave.

Film background
Released in 1974, Murder on the Orient Express is one of the definitive Christie adaptations—lavish, star-packed, and impeccably plotted. Set aboard the snowbound luxury train, Poirot is forced to solve a killing with a carriage full of suspects, each with motive, secrets, and alibis. The film became a major international hit and remains a benchmark for “prestige mystery” cinema, famously winning Ingrid Bergman the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Poster design
A wonderfully graphic, concept-driven Japanese B2 built around the silhouette of a steam locomotive, crowned by a glowing orange “lantern” plume—like a flame or clue rising into the air. The suspects’ faces are arranged inside the train shape like a living dossier: Finney’s Poirot at left, key players clustered in tense profile, and the ensemble balanced across both sides to emphasise suspicion and misdirection. Bold blue vertical copy at upper right teases the central question—“The criminal is among the passengers—who do you think it is?”—while the title 「オリエント急行殺人事件」 anchors the bottom in powerful red typography. Elegant, immediately readable, and extremely displayable.
