The cast is one of the film’s great pleasures (including Winona Ryder, Gena Rowlands, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Rosie Perez, Giancarlo Esposito, Isaac de Bankolé, Béatrice Dalle, Roberto Benigni, and Matti Pellonpää), and the tone moves from deadpan comedy to aching tenderness.
