“Night on Earth” (ナイト・オン・プラネット), Original First Release Japanese Movie Poster 1991, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O716

Sale price $145.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1991 for the first release of Night on Earth (ナイト・オン・プラネット), written and directed by Jim Jarmusch. A cult cornerstone of 1990s independent cinema, the film is structured as five linked taxi vignettes—Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rome, and Helsinki—each capturing a fleeting, late-night bond between driver and passenger as the world turns through its time zones.

Film background
Jarmusch’s concept is simple and brilliant: five cities, five rides, five short stories—funny, melancholy, and quietly profound. The cast is one of the film’s great pleasures (including Winona Ryder, Gena Rowlands, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Rosie Perez, Giancarlo Esposito, Isaac de Bankolé, Béatrice Dalle, Roberto Benigni, and Matti Pellonpää), and the tone moves from deadpan comedy to aching tenderness. The soundtrack is famously anchored by Tom Waits, whose music acts like the film’s nocturnal heartbeat.

Poster design
A superb Japanese design that feels more like graphic art than marketing: the top half is dominated by a cinematic still (a smoky, neon-lit car interior), while the lower half turns minimalist and modern—clean white field, bold vertical Japanese title typography, and a central blue “Earth” icon with the handwritten-style English title Night on Earth. Along the right edge, a strip of small stills works like a storyboard, hinting at the film’s multi-city structure. Elegant, design-forward, and extremely displayable.
