“True Account of Hishakaku: A Wolf’s Honor” (実録・飛車角 狼どもの仁義), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1974 (First Release), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) — ZA858
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the first release of True Account of Hishakaku: A Wolf’s Honor—a hard-edged Toei jitsuroku-style yakuza picture directed by Shinji Murayama (村山新治) and released by Toei on 5 October 1974.
Starring Bunta Sugawara (菅原文太), the film dramatises the life of the real-life model for “Hishakaku,” framed as a brutal, era-spanning survival story where violence becomes its own code.
Design
An explosive, confrontational composition: Sugawara’s tattooed Hishakaku howls under sheets of rain, set against a stark black field, while the enormous red brush-calligraphy title 狼どもの仁義 slashes across the lower half like a wound. The right side adds gritty documentary texture with monochrome inset imagery and a hard-lit portrait—pure 1970s Toei impact, engineered to read from across the street.
Condition
Very Good / Excellent. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale.
This is a cinema-used example with honest handling consistent with theatrical distribution (see front and reverse). The standout feature is the original cinema paper notice still attached along the bottom—a period piece of ephemera with handwritten screening details (including dates and programme notes), offering an unusually direct “in-the-wild” connection to how this poster was actually displayed and used five decades ago.
We have taken the condition into account when pricing. Once framed it will display excellently.
